Guidelines for Globe Pequot Press Titles
Thank you for your interest in publishing with GPP! We have a wide range of trade and specialty imprints that might be right for your book proposal. We welcome solicited and unsolicited submissions from authors, agents, and book packagers sent in hard copy by mail or other shipping carrier.
Due to the high volume of submissions, please note that GPP is under no obligation to respond to unsolicited submissions. We will not return any materials without a SASE (self-addressed stamped envelope). Never send your only copies of any materials, always make a duplicate. We are not responsible for loss of any materials sent to us. No calls, please, unless you are a professional literary agent or have a book contract with GPP. Proposals should only be emailed to an editor by request.
If you have a book idea for us to consider at GPP, you will need to create a complete a proposal in the following manner:
- Format: Please use Times New Roman 12-point font, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins. Number the pages. Always spell-check and proofread your work! Sloppy proposals will be rejected.
- A brief synopsis of the proposed work: What is the hook? What is original about the project? What shelf does it go on in the bookstore?
- A definition of the book's projected target audience/market (with statistics/demographics). What evidence is there of interest in the subject?
- Who is the consumer? Who will buy the book and why?
- An identification and analysis of competing titles. The titles can be found via amazon.com, Books in Print, and actual bookstore shelves (strongly advised). Why is your book better than what is already on the bookshelves?
- An annotated table of contents or outline of the entire book.
- Word count: How many words total do you propose for the finished work?
- Art content: Please describe any photographs (color or black and white), line drawings, and charts/tables, and graphs in the work. How many of each will you be proposing? Will you be delivering such art content yourself or are you expecting the publisher to render them? If you are providing art content that is integral to the work, we recommend you provide samples.
- A sample chapter to give us a sense of your writing style, the tone of the work, how the chapters are structured, and all of the elements within a chapter.
- Time frame: How long will it take you to write your work from the date of the contract?
- A one-page biographical statement of your credentials. Please include prior books, educational background, employment history, affiliations, media credits/appearances, and awards of relevance to the work you are proposing.
- Media kit: clippings (reviews of your prior books, articles by or about you); an author photograph; and any video/DVD of yourself in the national media (essential for booking authors on talk shows on many subjects).
- Market outreach: What will you do to promote? Do you have a web site for promoting the book? Will you set up speaking engagements at which books can be sold? Do you have close contact with organizations that might purchase your book?
